~ The next stop for HB 21 is the governor’s desk ~(TALLAHASSEE, Fla.) –  In a 39-0 vote today, the Florida Senate passed House Bill 21 by Rep. Bill Hager (R-Delray Beach), which requires the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) to create a voluntary certification program for recovery residence administrators. The Florida House of Representatives passed the bill in a 113-2 vote April 9. The next stop for HB 21 will be the governor’s desk for signature.

“Creating a certification requirement and program for recovery residence administrators will address issues of incompetence and abuses that leave vulnerable residents in dire situations,” said Florida Certification Board CEO Neal McGarry. “The Florida Certification Board commends Rep. Bill Hager and Sen. Jeff Clemens (D-Lake Worth) for their work to champion the legislation, and we are pleased to see other state lawmakers agree there is a need for accountability in the profession. It is encouraging to see the Florida Legislature is looking out for the safety of vulnerable residents.”
